Garam Masala is a masala (spice mix) mainly used in Indian and Pakistani cuisines, typically consisting of black peppercorns, white peppercorns, cloves, cinnamon, mace blades, black & white cumin seeds, black, brown & green cardamom pods, nutmeg, star anise, and coriander seeds. It is used to flavor many dishes from these cuisines and similar cuisines in the area.

Steps

1
Done

Roast all ingredients in a dry, nonstick pan and heat over a very low flame, shaking the pan every minute or two.
When the spices begin to give off a stronger fragrance, allow to cool a bit.

2
Done

Then grind finely in an electric grinder, or by hand, pressing through a fine sieve afterwards.
Store remainder in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
